VirtualBox is a free, open-source virtualization software allowing x86 virtualization. Enabling I/O APIC after said Guest OS is installed will do nothing, and the Guest OS will never spawn additional threads no matter how many cores or threads you assign to it. Virtual Box does multicore VMs just fine.
